OUR PHILOSOPHY
Living Large at the Stud
What do we mean by living large?
Our cattle spend the first 6 months of their lives by their mothers side and subside on their mothers milk as mother nature intended.
After which they transition to a diet of our custom grain ration for breakfast with lots of natural grazing. They will continue their growth to maturity on this diet with lots of grazing. The feeding of a small ration of grain each morning is not only for dietary reasons but it allows our heard to interact with our staff every day! “Health is not only physical but mental and emotional for all of Gods creatures!” Hay is added in winter months and mineral supplements are available 24/7.
It is very important to us that all of the Stud heard animals interact with us each day. This prevents them from stress and anxiety when someone enters the pasture or pen.
For that same reason they are all pushed through the working chutes and pens regularly, to insure it is familiar territory and there is no need to stress or panic.
Steers
While starting off on a similar track the steers will take a slightly different route.
Shortly after weaning the young steers will spend a few months conditioning while they transition from their mothers side to running in the pasture with other young steers and bulls.
At approximately 9 months of age the young steers relocate to their new home. A small multi acre paddock that sits on top of a hill. It is a quiet section of the farm, its elevation insures that the rain runs off so they can live essentially mud free and this paddock contains several large/old oak trees to make sure they can while away the days in the shade.
They dine on a special formula of feed (different from the rest of the herd) each morning and grass/hay and minerals all day.
At approximately 12-16 months of age they will move to the neighboring paddock whick is identical to the paddock they've just left.
The only exception being that from this point on for the rest of their lives they will have our custom feed available 24 hours a days seven days a week.
Our steers are always grouped by age/size and limited to low population paddocks. When talking to some of the most prominent Japanese producers, you will find that they consider this no stress approach essential to achieve the maximum result the genetics are capable of.
